Last night our travel group gathered at Faith Lutheran Church in Madison. After weighing our luggage (to make sure no one goes over the 50-pound limit for checked bags) and sharing some last-minute instructions, we had a brief commissioning service. Travelers committed themselves to serving others in Jesus' name, and families and friends promised to keep our group in prayer for the next eleven days.
This morning, we will board a bus to start the first leg of our travel. By the end of the day, we will be on the grounds of Cornerstone Therapeutic Riding Center near Ramona, California. Cornerstone's facilities were badly damaged in the California wildfires last year. They lost their barn, tack room, and several other structures. We will be helping with the rebuilding effort for the next two weeks. A visit to their website (click here) will give you more information about the work they do.

Hey, guys heard you had a hot day today. Also heard your first night did not start off too great. Think of the adventure it was and know it can only get better. As a mom and nurse make sure you are all drinking alot of water so you do not get dehydrated. Have fun and God Bless you all. Sherry, Mike and Bret
Say all of us at home, is there a way that if our kids "phone home" we can post on here how they are doing? I know Matt doesn't have a phone, and I'm wondering how much electricity access they have up in the mountaion, maybe not enough to be able to run a computer and then for them to be able to download pictures too, it might be difficult. Let alone that they are possibly shot from working at a higher altitude than they are used to. So just wondering if that would be a way for us at home to communicate? Thanks, just a thought, Pat Red.
Pat,
Thank you for letting us know Matt is not able to use his phone... We were a little worried when he cut out and we could not get a hold of him again. If you guys could post about how everything is going for them that would be great!! I am sure it is going great! Thanks! and, since matt's phone is not working, if he gets access to another phone, my number is 605-366-2503 and his mom's is 507-829-4854.

I think I may have had the wrong "Matt", as i think his phone is still working. Sorry!

Friends--
Thanks for the encouraging comments. I'll print them off every couple of days and share them with the students.
We do not have Internet access at the ranch (we barely have cell phone connections, as some of you have already found out). I have invited the students to pick a day to write about the group's experiences, and I'll post them every day or two when I can get to town to use the Internet access at the library.

Hey everyone! Hope things are getting a little better for you, hopefully you finally have your sleeping bags and you're adjusting to the heat. Have a great time and keep up the good work, the people there will really appreciate everything you do for them. We're thinking about you and you're in our prayers. Also just letting you know whenever people come into the golf course they ask if I've heard how things are going.
